Function

Capitalize on opportunities with other community resources… hospital

is catalyst for community health, including:

– Public health activities (screening, immunization etc)

– Consider secure patient care (possible service of county prisoners)

–        Wellness program / health education

 

Community is expecting:

• 24 hr emergency care

• Lab / Imaging / Colonoscopy

• Wound care / re-hydration

• Day surgery (eventually)

• No swing beds

• No tertiary care

 

• Should be a community gathering place – develop community

relationships around health and wellness

 

• Consider drug / alcohol rehab program and psychiatric services

(possible detox unit)

 

• Consider occupational medicine

 

• Consider ophthalmology 

 

• Consider impact of large scale disaster planning (especially chemical

and industrial accidents)

 

• Legacy clinic will close existing lab and x-ray – provide new in hospital

 

• Provide opportunities for physicians to be close to hospital

 

• No long term care

 

• Consider ‘non-traditional’ care in future

 

• Space for rape assessment

 

Form:

 

• State of the art, should inspire confidence

 

• Orient design to population (consider demographic projections)

• Current service forecast is through 2015. Need to define limit of growth

for hospital
